更换方案的目标是利用满足相应照明标准的优质照明系统淘汰失效设备,同时将能耗降至最低。现有照明系统中混合了SON和SOX光源,不仅显色性不佳,在一定区域内的光线均匀度也很差。首席工程师Jonathan Skill希望考虑在人行道和车行道实行区别配光,并通过定制CMS技术根据需要动态地降低或增强这一区域的照明等级,由此实现节能优势。

针对该项目采用LED解决方案之后,市议会得以部署具有卓越显色性的即时照明系统,从而使其能够在有关公路S级照度的现行英国标准允许的范围内将照明标准降低一个级别。在本案例中,道路照明等级从S3降到了S4。这种根据灯光色质进行的道路照明重新分级在英国是一种常见做法,在相关照明标准中也得到了认可,并且可以提供显著的节能优势。

谢菲尔德还通过结合利用Oxane LED与CMS技术实现了额外的节能收益,因为这样做使其能够通过缩短切换时间实现即时的节能(与所选的照明度有着直接关系),与此同时还在不影响效率的情况下延长了LED的使用寿命。他们选择的这种照明管理系统使其能够在必要情况下根据实际情况调整照明度,例如,当地有重大活动造成车流拥堵或行人激增时,通过这种系统可以即时响应照明需求。

市照明工程师Bob Stevenson说:“通过结合使用Oxane LED与CMS技术,我们能够根据特定时间的需求调节照明度,从而确保拥有适合行人和车流的照明标准,并且实现最终的动态控制。”
